Small Project Tools - Construction Cost Calculator

Initially developed for domestic clients, our Construction Cost Calculator is now available to our Developer colleagues for small projects (up to £500K).

A lot of time on any project is dedicated to the task of establishing project parameters.  SIX AD have developed a Construction Cost Calculator to generate approximate costs at a pre-engagement stage.  Unique to SIX AD, we're making the calculator available to our developer colleagues for a trial period.

Construction Calculator

The Construction Cost Calculator is designed to gather relevant project details from you, in order to calculate appropriate budget figures.  The costs produced by the Cost Calculator are based on 'rule of thumb' figures and as such the results are for guidance only and are not intended to replace the need for detailed costings prepared by a suitably qualified person.

The Calculator is arranged in two main sections; the first gathers information on the existing site, demolitions and project proposals.  The second section gathers information necessary to generate a fee for Architectural services.

How it works

The Construction Cost Calculator has been developed to gather and process the same information as we would ordinarily discuss with a client during the briefing process.  The main advantage of providing the Cost Calculator, is that approximate costs can be ascertained quickly to establish the viability of a project.

Data cells within the Cost Calculator are treated in a number of different ways depending on the type of input (i.e. text, drop-down, tick-box) and the functions assigned to the form by our development team.  The Calculator form fields relate to a series of database values that are updated at regular periods through the year, in order to ensure that the output remains relevant.

The Construction Cost Calculator takes the user input values and applies any relevant multipliers from the associated database.  The sub-totals are then carried over to report an estimated Construction Cost.  If required, the Construction Cost is then used as the basis for an estimate of Architectural fees.

Construction costs

The Construction Cost Calculator is provided as a 'free-to-use' tool.  None of the information input by the user in this section of the form is retrievable from the SIX AD servers, unless the user specifically requests a quote for Architectural fees by selecting the relevant tick-box at the bottom of the page.

This section gathers information relating to the site details, location, extent of any related demolitions, existing construction types, distance from boundaries, new room types, required quality and proposed construction.

Architectural fees

If requested in the first part of the Construction Cost Calculator, the form will go on to gather information necessary to produce an indication of Architectural fees.  As this is commercially sensitive information, SIX AD require that the user provides contact details in order to verify the authenticity of the request for fees, to allow us to store the Calculator output for your convenience and retrieval in case it is blocked by your ISP and finally, so we have the relevant details to contact you by your chosen method.

Outcome

The Construction Cost Calculator is intended to empower the user with the information needed to consider the relevant options at the earliest possible stage in a construction project.

Next steps

Please use the SIX AD Construction Cost Calculator to determine budget construction costs for your project.  Please ensure that you have read and agreed to the terms and conditions of use - we will accept your use of the Calculator as agreement to the terms.

If you request an indication of Architectural fees during the process, this will be sent to you automatically via e-mail when you submit the form.

If you have any questions regarding the process, or if you would like to talk about a specific project in detail, please get in touch with us via the methods outlined on our contact page.
